‘’The invisible portraits’’, by Olga Papadopoulou

Presentation of the artwork
in the context of ‘’Pazari’’ art project.

19/05 until 30/07/2025

100 years have been already passed since the events of 1922 and the
exchange of populations, and this could be a reason for an account with the aim of
highlighting the cultural and other elements that influenced and shaped artistic
creation in Greece and abroad. For this purpose, Visual Artist Dimitris Papachristos
invites creators whose work converses with history and promotes alternative
narratives and ideas.
Visual artist Olga Papadopoulou, presents the Work ‘’The invisible portraits’’ that it is
a comment about the general lack of social conciousnes which is not only appear as
a phainomenon to contemporary societies but it can be traced as an issue to all the
historical periods. As the artist notes:
The “portraits that do not exist” are very well hidden into their frames indeed. You can
only see them if you come close enough and stimulate them. But, even then, only
you are able to see them. They don’t see you, or even hear you. For they are in the
deepest sleep of all, the sleep of the just. All things that happen into this world do not
concern them, they only live in their own heavenly little bubble. In their dreams, they
drink, they party and they sing a unique song, that was written a very long time ago,
but still, they have never really understood:
“Tell me and I‘ll close my ears. Show me and I’ll close my eyes. Who ever gained
from this, and what, did never really crossed my mind. Just never thought I would be
you and you ‘d be me, this much I know.”

About Poeme design and fine arts

The studio was initially housed in a space belonging to a refugee family on
Agapitou Street in the Nafplio Settlement. Its initial location was also the main reason
for the conception of the idea for the exhibition program. In July 2024, following a
decision to demolish the property for the construction of a multi-storey building,
Poeme moved at 15 Bouboulinas Street, on the ground floor of a post-war apartment
building. The new space consists of an interior architecture studio, drawing, painting
and sculpture workshops, as well as a space for the presentation of contemporary art
works.

Pazari project is a curatorial program about contemporary art production.
